We're told that the Japanese are brought up to be polite and courteous. From my experience, that certainly seems to be the case.
Bowing to other people is a key part of their culture. It's a sign of respect. You see it everywhere in all parts of society and everyday life. For example, when a ticket collector is walking through a train carriage, he bows to the passengers when he enters the carriage and when he leaves the carriage, he turns and bows again.
Furthermore, people are remarkably kind to each other.
When taking a credit card or money, they use both hands. They regards it as rude to use only one hand.
